Welcome back to school families and students of Oasis Academy! Here's a quick overview of what we will be working on this week:
Projects: We will be working on a Science unit on cells and their structures. We will be reviewing quite a bit of vocabulary in this unit. By the end of the week, students will begin working on creating an analogy between another structure or location to that of a cell. One example we will be looking at in class is how a school is similar to a cell, its structures, and functions. I'm excited to see what other analogies students come up with.
6th grade Reading: Our week starts off with responding to literature. Students will learn how to first create a plan for responding to a specific text question. This is building a foundation for comprehension of text, supporting an opinion or idea with specific evidence, and practicing for similar tasks or questions found in Smarter Balance assessments. We will also begin our unit on Antebellum America which precludes the Civil War era. We will be reading passages to learn more about this era and practice identifying the main idea and key details in each passage.
6th & 8th grade Writing: Students will start the year with some fun writing activities that will help describe themselves. Writing tasks will include a bio-poem, a friendly letter to Mrs. de Leon, and even an activity that incorporates art and writing. These projects will be on display by Thursday, just in time for Back to School night at Oasis Academy!
