Dec. 12th-15th

Hello families of room 18! Here's a quick summary of what we will be working on this week:

Projects: Students continue to work our evolution unit. This week, students will begin working on their final project by creating a comic strip demonstrating how an animal of their choice is able to adapt, survive, and pass on their genes. We will be looking at various examples as well as conducting some research and planning to help with this project.

8th Writing: Students have concluded the argumentative writing unit and will be moving on to narrative. We will practice new narrative vocabulary as well as discuss the elements of good narrative writing. Students will also be looking at narrative exemplars and write a setting-based narrative of their own using a sketch to assist them. We are all excited to be moving on to a new type of writing!

6th Writing: Sixth grade authors will be working on finishing their argumentative essays and moving on to narrative. We will also take a vocabulary quiz on argumentative writing vocabulary. Please remember that essays do take quite some time to compose and thus grade so I will work diligently to get argumentative essays graded and recorded in Infinite Campus.

Reading: Last week we learned about the Gilded Age and the Progressive Era. Students will move on to reading and learning about World War 1 and begin working on their pyramid project in which they will depict an example of propaganda and describe alliances of this time period. I'm excited to get them started on this project.

REMINDERS:

Please make sure your child is reading 20 min nightly and summarizing on the reading log.

Students would like to do a gift exchange so if you would like your child to participate please e-mail me. I'm thinking a gift of no more than $5.
