Sept. 19th-22nd

Welcome to another week at Oasis Academy! I hope everyone had a fun and restful weekend. Here's a brief summary of the week ahead.

Projects: Students will complete a final exam on body systems. We will begin learning about the role photosynthesis plays in the flow of energy among living things. This will be a very short unit but will tie in very well to learning about ecosystems next week.

8th and 6th grade Writing: Students will continue to work on their informative essays about the Electoral College. This is not an opinion essay but rather an informational report. We will be working on finalizing our body paragraphs this week and hope to finish our introductory paragraph. On Thursday, we will write our concluding paragraph. I'm so proud of my writers! They have been troopers in completing their first essay: Three Things That Represent Me, and currently their informative essay on the Electoral College. I hope that we can work on shorter, more creative writing assignments soon!

6th Language Arts: We continue to practice rules of capitalization. We will be working in IXL and students will be justifying their responses in IXL by citing their notes on capitalization rules.

6th Reading: This week we will begin reading Two Miserable Presidents. This is a historical/informational text that describes the events that led to the Civil War in the U.S. We will be completing a series of vocabulary and comprehension activities. Also, we will learn about structures of informational texts and discuss how the text structure influences the development of a topic.

HOMEWORK: Read 20 minutes and summarize in reading log

GRADES: I am finishing grading the last of our writing essays: Three Things That Represent Me, so those will be entered into Infinite Campus soon.
