Projects: Students have begun working on their body systems projects. Our class has been divided into six groups and each group will research a body system and create a life-size poster showing the organs in their assigned body system. Next week, groups will present their findings to the class.
6th & 8th Writing: Most students have completed their explanatory essay, 3 things that represent me. A few students needed some extra time so I told them to finish typing and printing their essays over the weekend. These are due tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 6th! Our next writing project will be an informative essay on the electoral college. Students will be building background knowledge on the electoral college this week through short video clips and readings. We will also review parts of an essay and the purpose of a thesis statement.
6th Reading: We continue to work on summarizing informational text. We will review what should be included in a summary and of course practice writing summaries. In addition, we will finish our reading about the economic divide between the northern and southern states during the Antebellum America time period. Finally, we will review reading strategies from our CAFE menu and I will continue to confer individually with students.
REMINDERS/ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Homework: Students are to read the same book for 20 minutes each night and complete the summary portion of their reading logs. Please check that your child brings home a new reading log home at the beginning of each week. If you have any questions in regards to the book your child should be reading, please e-mail me and I will let you know.
Grades: On Thursday, Sept. 1st, Oasis Academy sent home letters to families regarding setting up an account on the Infinite Campus portal. This will allow parents to view their child's grades. I will finish entering grades tonight so you can check for updates tomorrow.

Presentation on the respiratory system by Dan Stasik. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and providing students with a fun learning activity! |
Respiratory competition between boys and girls! We had a blast and learned about lung capacity and it's correlation with height. Students competed to see who could exhale the most liters per minute. |
