Jan. 17th-19th

Hello 6th grade families! Here's what we'll be working on this week!

Projects: Students continue to learn about the social, economical, and political influence of the 1920s. Daily, we watch videos, discuss, read, and take notes using various web sources. Today students began researching for their final project which will involve creating a "magazine" which depicts a topic from this era. Students chose to research either fashion, politics/government, entertainment, or economics of this time period.

8th Writing: Students will begin writing imaginative narratives. This week students will work in partners to write to a prompt. I am emphasizing to students that they plan their fictional narratives first before they write so they keep their stories focused on developing a plot. Finally, students will be working in IXL to review sensory details and incorporate those details in their writing.

6th Writing; Students finished their personal narratives on a memorable, setting-based event and will also begin drafting an imaginative narrative. Once again, the focus will be on planning their story first to make sure students stay focused when writing.

Reading: We continue to work on making inferences in our read aloud as well in sample texts. This week we will analyze, interpret, and draw inferences from text. Students will have to support their inferences with textual support. Finally, students will continue practicing vocabulary words with the root man/manu which means "hand". We will have a quiz on this word list later this week.
