Jan. 23rd-26th

Hello 6th grade families! Here's a heads up as to what we will be working on this week:

Projects: Students continue to learn about the influence of the 1920s on American society, politics, and economics. Each day, we watch different short videos and discuss them. We then write the most pertinent information on an ongoing chart. Students are also working on their final project which is a magazine that depicts fashion, entertainment, government, and economics of the era.

8th Writing: Students are working on creating another imaginative narrative using two excerpts as mentor texts. Students will learn about good narrative writing techniques and will search for application of those techniques in the mentor texts. Students will then apply those same techniques used in the mentor texts to write an imaginative narrative about a character that takes a journey.

6th Writing: Students are working on imaginative narratives and will be writing a narrative with a partner this week. Students will be given the characters and setting for their narratives and they can choose from four different conflicts to guide the development of their plot. Students will make sure that they follow a pre-writing guide to keep their narratives focused.

Language Arts: Students will be working in IXL to learn about using reflexive pronouns correctly. We will take notes and look at some examples together before students are asked to work independently.

Reading: We continue to work on making inferences and citing text as support. We will be working on making inferences by analyzing song lyrics and annotating. Finally, we will write a formal written response using our A.C.E.S. plans.

REMINDERS:
Please remember to have your child read each night and complete the reading log. Report cards were sent home last week on Wednesday, some of on Thursday if your child was absent.
