Projects: We are making great progress in our unit on The Great Depression. Students have already begun creating their websites. This week we will learn about the Stock Market Crash as well as President Herbert Hoover and the challenges he faced during this time.
8th Writing: We will be finishing our narrative prompt: Write a narrative about a character who takes a journey. Students will also work on the vocabulary for our narrative writing unit and take a vocabulary quiz. Finally, students will work on an unassisted narrative using one of the 8th grade writing tasks found from the Nevada Department of Education.
6th Writing: We will be finishing our narrative prompt: Write a narrative about the final hours aboard the Mary Celeste. Students will also work on the vocabulary for our narrative writing unit and take a vocabulary quiz. Finally, students will work on an unassisted narrative using one of the 6th grade writing tasks found from the Nevada Department of Education.
Reading: Students will be learning about plot this week and analyzing how a character changes as the plot of a story unfolds. We are working on building our stamina in reading and answering questions about longer passages. I'm super proud of my students...they are troopers!
Reminders:
* Students are welcome to send in Valentines and/or treats on Valentine's Day. We will be celebrating during the last part of the day. Please make sure to send in 20 treats/cards.
*Homework: please make sure to sign off on your child's reading log each night. Students can summarize, make inferences, or predictions on their reading but they must explain these predictions/inferences with evidence from their reading. So far, the reading logs I've read are improving and students' inferences/predictions are very thoughtful!
*No school Monday, Feb. 20th.
