Feb. 6th-9th

Projects: We are moving forward with our next unit of study in Social Studies which is The Great Depression. As a class, we've discussed what we know about this era and fortunately students have quite a bit of background knowledge. We will be watching a series of videos and discussing them as well as taking notes a class this week regarding the stock market crash of 1929. We will also be conducting a simulation to help with understanding the stock market.

8th Writing: Students continue to work on the imaginative narrative prompt "Write a narrative about a character that takes a journey." We will be working on following procedures similar to those of the formal writing examination as well as using a provided checklist to help students assess their work. I will be conferring individually with students before they turn in their final drafts on Thursday.

6th Writing: Students also continue to work on the imaginative narrative prompt: "Write a narrative about the final hours before the disappearance of the crew aboard the Mary Celeste." We will be working on following similar procedures to those of the formal writing examination as well as using a provided checklist to help students assess their work. I will be conferring individually with students before they turn in their final drafts.

Reading: We will wrap up making inferences and review reading strategies for nonfiction texts. We will also be working on summarizing in Study Island on Thursday. We continue to work on vocabulary by studying prefixes, suffixes, and roots. This week we are studying the prefix "intra" which means within/inside. In addition, we will learn about current events, discuss them, and answer comprehension questions using Flocabulary's Week In a Rap. Students have great discussions about current events and it is great listening to everyone's perspective.
