Mar. 13th-16th

Projects: This week students will finish their website projects about The Great Depression. I continue to confer with each student making sure they are following the rubric and create a to-do list to help guide their progress. We will also take a vocabulary quiz on The Great Depression and review everything we've learned by discussing our driving question for this unit.

8th Writing: This week students will finish writing their argumentative editorial on funding for cloud seeding. Students will be working on this collaboratively with a partner and we will stop to discuss criteria as we work on each part of the editorial each day.

6th Writing: This week students will finish writing their modern day folktales using the same theme and narrative techniques as a mentor text. Students will be working on this collaboratively with a partner and we will stop to discuss criteria as we work on each part of the modern day folktale each day.

Reading: Students continue to expand on their knowledge of plot elements and character evolution. In addition, they will learn how plot events and the character's response helps the reader identify the overall theme of a text. Students will be creating a chart to help them identify these relationships within fictional text. We will also be looking at plot, character challenges/responses, and theme as we progress through our new read aloud titled Runt.

Language Arts: Students continue to work on connotation and denotation. Students will expand on the notes we took last week to understand and explain that words, although they have similar meanings, can have a positive, negative, or neutral connotation. We will be practicing this skill in IXL together as a class and independently.

REMINDERS:
* Please check that your child completes the reading log nightly.
* I e-mailed a sign up for spring conferences. Please e-mail me at bdeleon@oasisacademyfallon.us , if you have not received an e-mail.
* This is the last week before the end of the quarter and before spring break. All assignments will be due by Tuesday afternoon so I have time to grade them and enter grades before we go on break. Please remember that I give students the opportunity to turn in late work but they must turn it in before the quarter is over, otherwise grades are locked.
* Please let me know if you have any questions.
