Apr. 10th-13th

Projects: We continue our unit on World War II. This week we will continue to work on a timeline of Hitler's life. In addition, we will read and analyze excerpts of his book Mein Kampf . We will also learn about the Jewish and Chinese Holocaust. Finally, we will share the final project expectations and rubric for World War II. Students will be able to choose a topic that they'd like to present on for this unit. I can't wait to see how their final projects turn out!

8th Writing: Students continue to work on their essays for a writing contest sponsored by the Nevada Department of Education and the Department of Tourism. They can choose to write about a memorable travel experience within the state of Nevada or write about a location they'd like to travel to within the state.

6th Writing: Students are working on an argumentative piece about the Loch Ness monster. Currently, we are working on reading and annotating two passages about the Loch Ness monster. From these passages, students will have to find evidence to support their argument on whether or not they believe the Loch Ness monster exists, as well as include a counterclaim and rebuttal for their argument.

Reading: We continue to work on comparing and contrasting two texts with similar themes. Students are creating a chart to compare Touching Spirit Bear and "We Will Rock You". Students must write in complete sentences and cite specific evidence from texts to support their comparisons. Furthermore, we will work on comparing and contrasting reading a text to listening or viewing a performance of the same text. Students will have to explain similarities and differences between what they "see" and "hear" when reading a text to what they "perceive" when listening to the same text.
